Sense decked out the HSBC VIP Marquee at the recent Taste of Sydney Festival held in Centennial Park. The marquee gave VIP ticketholders and HSBC customers the chance to relax in a luxurious air-conditioned enclosure, mingle with chefs of Australia’s best restaurants plus a full schedule of live entertainment. The ‘garden gazebo’ inspired space designed and decorated by Sense, highlighted the breezy summer atmosphere of the festival elevating HSBC’s primary sponsorship to a level beyond previous years.

“On behalf of all of us at HSBC, I would like to extend a massive thankyou for the incredible effort you put into the production and management of the HSBC VIP Marquee at Taste of Sydney 2012. I can safely speak on behalf of the rest of the team when I say a huge well done, you guys were fantastic and a pleasure to work with!”

‘The Bar at the End of the Wharf’ is Sydney’s newest hip bar and venue. It’s decked out in a classic Melbourne-like style with old-world Edison light bulbs hanging above the bar and industrial factory room lighting. However the one thing this bar has over many of its Melbourne counterparts are amazing water views as well as being attached to one of Australia’s foremost artistic and cultural heartlands, the Sydney Theatre Company. Best of all the drinks and food menu are very reasonably priced.

Keep this venue in mind when thinking about your 2012 christmas party location. It’s a versatile space able open to a variety of potential themes and layouts.

Find it at the very end of Pier 4/5, Hickson Rd Walsh Bay.

Tupac hologram live @ Coachella 2012

Tupac Shakur, the well known American rapper who was shot dead in Las Vegas in 1996 has made a miraculous comeback at the recent Coachella festival. Appearing on stage as a lifesize hologram, Tupac performed alongside the infamous Snoop Dog in what was the first ever animated concert by a performer of the past.

What do you think? Just an expensive novelty or is there a future in holographic live performances?

With only 100 days to go until London 2012 the IOC (International Olympic Committee) has launched the Olympics Hub. The Hub is a searchable directory of Olympians who provide posts from their Facebook and Twitter accounts and other information designed to connect people and their favourite athletes. Over 1,000 Olympians have already joined The Hub with the number to continue to grow towards the final countdown to the games.

This is a nice example of a digital extension of a live event enabling pre, during and post-event activity to maximise the longevity and legacy of the Olympic games. It’s something we’ve preached about for a while to brands and it’s nice to see the strategy being taken on board by the biggest event of all.

The Blocks is a collaboration between Penfolds Wines and Toogood Studio (London), an ambitious multi-sensory environment dedicated to wine and creativity. Through art and design, The Blocks encourages visitors to discover their palettes using sight, touch and smell before tasting some of the world’s greatest wines all matched to distinctive foods.

With the event having run over a period of three weeks in both Sydney and Melbourne, it’s good to see some brands willing to invest in high quality events based around meaningful experiences. The Blocks offerred consumers real, tangible engagement beyond the ‘shock and awe’ employed by many companies these days. We loved it.

Pinterest is the latest booming social media startup for 2012. Essentially, Pinterest is a ‘digital scrapbook’ where users can present and organise all of their interests and present them to the world. In terms of events (and business in general) it is only in such early stages that many haven’t yet worked out how to utilise it in their own business or for marketing purposes. Pinterest can be a great tool for creating mood boards for clients based on creative concepts, or be used as inspiration to collect imagery around a certain topic.
Additionally Pinterest can be used as a central image bank for an event where guests post their individual photos, collating them all into the one location. Uniquely, Pinterest maintains the source links to the images so guests posting photos can be contacted and tracked. A great way to engage and build communities around your brand and extend the legacy of the event. How do you use Pinterest?

Cioccolato is a pastry boutique specialising in custom desserts for special events. The company engaged Savvy Studio to redesign its interior and brand identity. They’ve done a fantastic job at bringing out the core essence of the brand using colour and vivid imagery while at the same time reflecting the nature of the event clients they serve….companies like us! It’s also a good example of how a consistent colour palette ensures a striking finished result. Use this as a rule of thumb when designing your next event.
